Ned Damon

Today we are featuring Edward (Ned) Damon, Portland resident for 5 years, originally from the wilds of Central Nebraska. Currently working for a Beaverton-based internet company as a Data Scientist. Ned’s top 4 biggest design influences are Sidereal Confluence, Churchill,  Pax Pamir 2nd ed. and Diplomacy. Overall, Ned likes his life like his games, boring and with too many rules. Ned will be joining us in Designer Alley at #SGS20 showing off A Crystal Ship.

GAME DESCRIPTION:

A Crystal Ship is a game about ideology, politics, and negotiation aboard a generation ship bound for an exoplanet. You play the role of a political faction attempting to make your mark on society, hopefully without dooming the entire ship to death in the icy void.

Each turn represents about 4 years of local time, during which you’ll attempt to resolve crises, enact policies, recruit political figures and haggle with each other over the specifics. There’s a shared pool of ship resources that will be drawn from, and if they are ever depleted, the game ends in a loss for all players (but someone will be lord of the ashes). Survive through the time limit, and the player whose faction had the most impact on society will be the winner.

WHAT STANDS OUT ABOUT THE GAME:

The use of haggling among political figures, paired with the need to work together as to not deplete they resources and end the game. It seems like an intriguing and thoughtful exercise in balancing the greater good with your own objectives.

WHEN YOU CAN PLAY IT:

Saturday January 18th, 2020 at 1 p.m.
