Jeff Black

Today we are featuring Jeff Black, who will be joining us at #G2S20 . Here is some info about him, written in his own words:

“I have been designing games since I was in the 6th grade - my first was a dungeon crawler where players had to defeat the entire D&D Monster Manual in order to find 10 keys and escape an enormous system of caves. No player ever completed it!

I continued making games off and on until about 10 or 12 years ago when I discovered Scott Nicholson’s awesome ‘Board Games With Scott’ show. It exposed to me a world of games that I never knew existed, and it inspired me to take my own game designs to the next level. In retrospect, it’s fair to say that it changed my life in a very positive way!

A bit later, when my son Josh was in Kindergarten, we began making games together! All kinds of games - we made racing games, cops and robbers games, and even a game about raising chickens and bringing their eggs to market.

One day a couple of years after that, while driving through Cambridge, Massachusetts, we were talking about all the different businesses that have been started there, and Josh asked me if we could start a business of our own someday too. That’s when our company Little j Games was born.

Since then we have continued to design and play lots and lots of games. Our specialty is  light to medium weight games that kids and families can all play together in an hour or less. Within that arena our range is pretty diverse. We have at least as much fun making games as we do playing them, and we’re psyched to share that fun with the rest of the world! Let’s all discover the fun!

In addition to designing games, I am an educator and a guitar player. I live in the Boston area.”

THREE RANDOM FACTS ABOUT JEFF:

  • Jeff has lived in 4 states - Massachusetts, Wyoming, Montana, and Texas.

  • He once played the role of a security guard in a locally produced independent film.

  • After a miscommunication, Jeff was once interviewed live on the 11 o’clock news regarding his opinion of a Paul McCartney concert that he had not actually attended. Once the lights came on and the reporter started talking to Jeff, he was too embarrassed to stop.
